Word is out that Capitals winger Ivan Miroshnichenko wants to be traded. Elliott Friedman reported that the team has given the Caps first-round pick (20th overall in 2022) permission to talk to other clubs to find a trade partner. While it is not surprising that Miro is unhappy with his current role as a healthy scratch more often than not this season, the Caps’ forward depth has made it hard for the young Russian to break into the starting lineup.
Miroshnichenko has proven himself at the AHL level and made the team out of training camp. He’s a goal scorer who just so happens to play on probably the deepest roster in the NHL. Another team is practically guaranteed to pick him up if Washington puts him on waivers. The Capitals are loaded with forward prospects, with talented winger Andrew Cristall lighting it up in Hershey as we speak. Shipping Miro out now could help general manager Chris Patrick load up on draft picks to use at the trade deadline March 1, 2027, and allow them to call up Cristall to replace him.
So, which team should the Capitals be talking to about a trade?
Vancouver
The Canucks are rebuilding and need young goal scorers. Miro is exactly what they could use on the wing. He would certainly get more playing time and would have a chance to play with Elias Petersson, who has gotten off to a good start this year. They are loaded with draft picks and could afford to send a second-rounder and another lower round pick to DC for the young Russian sniper.
