As autumn approaches, some of Hamilton’s most picturesque hiking destinations are adopting a reservation system to manage the high demand from visitors.
Starting Sept. 23 and continuing throughout the fall season, Hamilton’s iconic locations like Dundas Peak, Tew Falls and Webster’s Falls will need a reservation for people to visit.
To secure their spot, visitors will need to make reservations at a rate of $10 for an individual reservation, $11 per vehicle, and $5 per passenger.
The Hamilton Conservation Authority(HCA) says this is necessary due to the “overwhelming popularity” to experience the scenic views offered by these popular spots within the Spencer Gorge Conservation Area during the fall season.
The reservation system has been put in place to ensure a seamless experience for both the conservation area and its visitors, particularly during the peak autumn months.
The online reservation system began in 2020 when major COVID-19 health protections were in place before vaccines were available.
Visitors can secure a 2-hour time slot by making advance online reservations and can be booked up to one week in advance or until midnight the day before the visit.
This proactive approach aims to preserve the natural beauty of these sites while accommodating the growing number of nature enthusiasts eager to witness the fall foliage.
“Reservations are rain or shine and must be made online in advance,” HCA adds.
“Visitors without an advance reservation will not be permitted entry. No walk-up or drive-up entry will be admitted without an advance reservation.”
