FARGO — The 2023 holiday season was another busy one for local airports.

Preliminary numbers at Hector International Airport in Fargo show 11,932 travelers went through TSA from Christmas Eve to Dec. 30, a slight dip from last year. In 2022 the total was 12,051.

Even with minimal decrease, Hector International Airport Executive Director Shawn Dobberstein said it was still plenty busy.

He also said things went smoothly during the holidays. But fog, as well as freezing rain from the Christmas ice storm delayed or canceled some holiday flights.

“Slowed things down and canceled, or they waited until temperatures improved or the precipitation lightened up, so that they could get back to operations,” Dobberstein said.

The executive director of Grand Forks International Airport Ryan Riesinger told WDAY News they won’t have their passenger numbers for the holidays until mid-January.
