Zeenat Aman recently travelled to Jaipur and took ot social media to share glimpses from her getaway. She decided to explore the city like a true wanderer, and found a lovely contrast in it, showing the noisy, busy markets of the old city on one side and the calm elegance of Rambagh Palace on the other. She began her post with the line “Jaipur can be magic”, and went on to explain that since she had a day off, she spent it doing what the city does best. She shopped for silver and saris in the lively, crowded lanes of the old city, and she enjoyed a high tea at Rambagh Palace. She felt the difference between the two was a lovely thing. While most of us know the feeling of landing in a new city with a list on our phone with ten places to see, five places to eat, and a timetable that leaves no room to breathe, travel almost feels like a kind of homework.Zeenat Aman has a different perspective on looking at things.
Zeenat Aman gives a glimpse into her Jaipur day off
Veteran actress Zeenat Aman recently shared photos on Instagram from a day off in Jaipur as she shopped for silver and saris in what she called the “gloriously chaotic bylanes” of the old city, had high tea at Rambagh Palace and introduced the day with a simple line: ‘Jaipur can be magic.’
Two sides of one city
She visited Johri Bazaar, one of the city’s best-known markets, famous for its jewellery and textiles. She described the lanes as a ‘sensory adventure,’ narrow, crowded and full of goods on display, with a lot of lively chatter between sellers and buyers. One photo shows her sitting beside a shop in the alley, looking at the saris laid out.Later in the day, the mood changed completely when she visited the Rambagh Palace, which was once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur and is now a luxury hotel. Describing whic h she wrote that she was surrounded by symmetry, fountains, neatly clipped hedges, strutting peacocks and flowers arranged “with military precision”.ID@undefined Caption not available.ID@undefined Caption not available. She enjoyed tea and something sweet, and had her palm read by a palmist who, in her words, ‘humoured me about my state of affairs.’She called the contrast lovely. Within a few hours she had gone from loud and crowded to calm and elegant, and she enjoyed both.Zeenat Aman skips the travel checklist to focus on making memories
The most insightful part of her short getaway was her view on travelling
Aman is now much less interested in ticking things off a list, describing which she wrote: “I’ve become much less interested in ticking off a list when I travel. These days, I’d rather wander into a market, find something lovely for someone I care about, sit in the sunshine, look at an old building, eat something delicious and allow the day to unfold at its own pace. Perhaps that is the luxury of an off day. Not having to make it productive. Just making it memorable.”This profound trick for her travels can be helpful for many travellers who try to explore every part of a place they visit, missing out on the idea that the real beauty lies in just admiring the beauty and details of the place at a slow pace.
