One of the best cornerbacks in the NFL might be on the move this offseason.

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, a pending free agent, is expected to receive the franchise tag, but he’s also been allowed to explore a trade to a new team, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

A two-time Super Bowl champion, Sneed has played at an elite level since joining the Chiefs in 2020, but his contract is set to expire and Kansas City might not be able to afford his next deal as the team also tries to negotiate a new contract with defensive tackle Chris Jones.

If Sneed is actually traded, another NFL team is about to get a true star at the position. Let’s analyze five teams who could make a move for Sneed.

The Colts have a ton of cap space and could absolutely use a player of Sneed’s caliber to elevate its defense. With Kenny Moore a free agent, the team could send a draft pick or two to Kansas City and replace him with one of the best cornerbacks in the game. It’d be a home run for an ascending Indianapolis team that could seriously contend in the playoffs next year.

The Lions would be a fantastic landing spot for Sneed, as he could jump from one Super Bowl contender to another, one that desperately needs a true lockdown corner for its secondary. Adding Sneed would be a phenomenal move that would further establish Detroit as one of the teams to beat in the NFC this upcoming season. They’ve got the cap space to get this done.

The Rams are another NFC contender that could really benefit from adding Sneed to their defense. Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon is slated to be a free agent, and Sneed could start opposite promising young cornerback Cobie Durant to give Los Angeles a strong pair of corners for the future. Los Angeles has the draft capital and cap space to figure this out if it can.

The Cardinals could be a surprise contender this upcoming season, and adding a true top cornerback could help speed up that process. Arizona has plenty of draft picks and cap space to swing for Sneed if the team is able, and they’d be a fascinating landing spot for the elite cornerback, especially in an NFC West with so many capable wide receivers.

The Tennessean

The Titans currently have the most cap space available in the NFL going into free agency, and the team has a very clear need at cornerback as Kristian Fulton is slated to be a free agent. New coach Brian Callahan would have to love having Sneed on defense for his first year, and they shouldn’t have any logistical trouble getting a deal like this done if they can. Adding Sneed to this defense would be a huge boost to a rebuilding franchise.
