BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to combine handloom handicrafts with tourism, weavers and handicraft artisans of the State might be skilled in tender abilities, hospitality, and tourism administration. The Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts division has proposed to coach 730 grasp weavers, awardees, entrepreneurs, handicraft artisans of 73 handloom clusters throughout the State and has roped in college of Indian Institute of Tourism & Journey Administration for the aim. The initiative might be applied via State Company for Improvement of Handloom Clusters.
Within the first section, 80 weavers from Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts got coaching on numerous facets of hospitality and tender abilities throughout a two-day programme that concluded on Friday.
Officers mentioned the programme can even assist in selling rural tourism. At present, the State has weavers’ craft villages – Bayanagram – at Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur and work is underway to develop Maniabandha Buddhist Handloom Village in Cuttack, and Tassar Craft Village at Gopalpur in Jajpur.
Deputy Director of Textiles Ashutosh Mahanty mentioned it has been noticed that the handloom clusters and crafts villages are getting each home and overseas vacationers in massive numbers. “Therefore, it’s needed for the artisans to have the ability set to interact the vacationers in an informative and enriching palms on expertise,’ he added.
