Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has rolled out an informative public awareness campaign offering essential healthy travel tips to residents and citizens preparing for journeys during the summer season and beyond.
The initiative, shared widely on official platforms yesterday, emphasised practical measures to maintain wellbeing while travelling, focusing on hydration, nutrition, and smart dietary choices.
With summer travel peaking and many Qataris planning vacations, the MoPH underscores the importance of proactive health management to prevent common travel-related issues such as dehydration and digestive discomfort. The campaign features engaging bilingual infographics that provide clear, actionable advice tailored for air, road, and general travel.
One of the core recommendations is to stay hydrated. Travellers have been advised to consume 8-12 cups of fluids daily, prioritising water over other beverages. This becomes particularly crucial during long flights or road trips where cabin pressure and dry air can accelerate fluid loss. Proper hydration supports overall health, maintains energy levels, and helps prevent fatigue and headaches associated with travel.
The Ministry has also encouraged maintaining healthy eating habits throughout the journey. Travellers should familiarise themselves with local cuisines at their destinations while aiming for balanced meals that incorporate a variety of options from the six main food groups.
This approach ensures nutritional adequacy despite changes in routine and food availability. By opting for wholesome, traditional dishes in moderation, individuals can enjoy cultural experiences without compromising their health.
Another key highlight is choosing natural sugars for sweet cravings. The campaign promotes fresh fruits, dates, and whole foods containing natural sugars over processed alternatives or sweetened juices. Whole fruits provide essential fibre and nutrients, aiding digestion and offering sustained energy, vital for long journeys. This guidance helps travellers manage blood sugar levels effectively and supports healthier snacking options on the go.
Health experts at the MoPH note that these tips are part of broader efforts to empower the community with knowledge for safer travels. Simple steps like these can significantly reduce the risk of illness and enhance the overall travel experience, allowing families to fully enjoy their time away while returning refreshed.
The campaign aligns with Qatar’s national health strategies that prioritise preventive care and public education. In addition to the visual guides, the Ministry has recommended consulting healthcare providers before travel for personalised advice, especially for those with pre-existing conditions or travelling with children and the elderly.
As Qatar continues to promote a health-conscious society, such initiatives reinforce the country’s commitment to citizen wellbeing both at home and abroad. Residents have been encouraged to follow MoPH’s official channels for more resources and updates on health guidelines.
